Privacy

Your browser processes the photo on your device. Neither the original nor the finished headshot is uploaded to Free Headshots.

The site still uses the network like any other: to load the page, ads, analytics where permitted, and the processing models (about 20 MB, downloaded once and cached). Your photo is not part of any of those requests.

You can verify it yourself

  1. Open your browser's Network tools before you choose a photo, and inspect the requests.
  2. After the processing models have loaded once, disconnect from the internet and process another photo.

The things people ask first

Is Free Headshots really free?

Yes. There is no watermark, download fee or paid tier. Advertising pays for the site.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo you choose and the finished headshot are processed in your browser and are not sent to Free Headshots.

The page itself still uses the network normally for page assets, model files, advertising and analytics, as the privacy policy describes.

Does it change what I look like?

It can change the background, framing, lighting and optional retouching, but it does not generate or replace your facial features.

How long does it take?

Usually a few seconds once the models are cached. The first run takes longer, because the browser first downloads about 20 MB of model files.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no account or email signup.

Can I use the result for LinkedIn?

The downloaded image can be used as a professional profile photo, including on LinkedIn, company profiles and similar services, subject to those services' own rules.

What happens when I close the page?

Both are discarded. The photo passes from this page to the result page through your browser’s own storage and is cleared as soon as the result page opens it. After that, the photo and the headshot exist only in the open tab until you download the result.

What is running in my browser?

Two vision models, about 20 MB together. One separates you, your hair and the background; the other maps 478 points on your face. Those measurements guide the crop, the masks, the relighting and the retouching. No generative model redraws your features.

The models are converted from Google’s MediaPipe work (Apache-2.0), run through ONNX Runtime Web and are hosted by us. Free Headshots is independent and not affiliated with Google.
